Senior Visiting Research Chair

Senior Visiting Research Chair at the University of Paris 13

The University of Paris 13 is pleased to announce the creation of an advanced, senior level visiting Research Chair, to be awarded to an outstanding, internationally recognized scientific leader. This chair will rotate among the research departments at the University of Paris 13, beginning this year with the Departement of Mathematics.

The research areas of candidates should be related to one or more of the many research specialties represented in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Paris 13. These areas cover a broad spectrum of pure and applied mathematics, and potential candidates are invited to consult the web site for a description of the mathematical activities at the University of Paris 13.

The Chair holder will be expected to maintain an active presence in the Department of Mathematics, in particular by giving a research level graduate class (in English or in French) and by participating in the organisation of a research seminar or workshop.

SELECTION COMMITTEE and SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES

The selection of the successful candiates was made by a specially appointed committee, made up for the most part by mathematicians from outside the University of Paris 13.

John H. Coates, Sadleirian Professor of Pure Mathematics, University of Cambridge
Yves Félix, Professor, Université de Louvain la Neuve
Gilles Lebeau, Professor, Université de Nice
Jean-Loup Salzmann, the President of the Université Paris 13, or his representative
Laurence Halpern, head of the laboratory LAGA.

The committee convened the 15 October 2009, under the chairmanship of J.C. Yoccoz. It decided to award the Research Chair jointly to

  • Mikhail Kapranov, Professor at Yale University
  • Maciej Zworski, Professor at the University of California (Berkeley).
