Topologie algébrique Configuration spaces
Description:
Ieke MoerdijkThe aim of this "minicourse" is to present some aspects of the theory of configuration spaces and their compactifications. We will begin by recalling some classical results about the space of configurations of a finite number of points in a smooth manifold, such as the FadellNeuwirth fibration and the Arnold relations in the cohomology of these spaces. Next, we will discuss the FultonMacPherson compactification in some detail. A careful choice of coordinates will show that this compactification has a nice stratification, the strata of which are parametrised by trees. As a consequence, these compactifications have the structure of an operad. We will conclude by explaining that for the case where the manifold is euclidean nspace, this operad is an E_noperad, by showing that it is closely related to the BoardmanVogt resolution of the little ncube operad.
