Résumé: Topologie algébrique - Configuration spaces -
Description: Ieke MoerdijkThe aim of this "mini-course" is to present some aspects of the theory
of configuration spaces and their compactifications. We will begin by
recalling some classical results about the space of configurations of a
finite number of points in a smooth manifold, such as the
Fadell-Neuwirth fibration and the Arnold relations in the cohomology of
these spaces. Next, we will discuss the Fulton-MacPherson
compactification in some detail. A careful choice of coordinates will
show that this compactification has a nice stratification, the strata of
which are parametrised by trees. As a consequence, these
compactifications have the structure of an operad. We will conclude by
explaining that for the case where the manifold is euclidean n-space,
this operad is an E_n-operad, by showing that it is closely related to
the Boardman-Vogt resolution of the little n-cube operad.
