MACS 1 - Optimization in dimension 2 or 3

Professor : Caroline Japhet
Optimization problems arise in computer science and engineering, operations research and economics,
and optimizationthe development of mathematical and numerical solution methods to solve these problems has been of interest for centuries. An optimization problem consists of maximizing or minimizing a function
possibly subject to constraints. The goal of this course is to study different methods for solving problems in 2D/3D
  • examples of optimization problems
  • problems without constraint, local and global extrema, 1st and 2nd order optimality conditions
  • problems with constraints : Lagrange mulipliers
