This course is an introduction to the numerical approximation of partial differential equations using finite volume and finite element methods.

The program ins as follows :

  • Presentation of some partial differential equations from physics
  • Linear and nonlinear hyperbolic equations and systems of equations
  • Finite volume schemes for hyperbolic equations: consistency, stability, entropic character
  • Finite volume schemes for elliptic and parabolic equations
  • Variational formulations of elliptic problems and the Lax-Milgram theorem
  • Sobolev spaces
  • Mathematical study of elliptic problems
  • Finite element method
