Admission

Prerequisites. To join the Master 2 "Mathematics of Data", students are formally required to have successfully completed a Master 1 in mathematics. Applicants should have solid basic grounds in all the main mathematical areas (algebra, analysis, probability and statistics), as well as some rudimentary programming competences.

Application procedure. Applications are opened from April 15th till June 30th. They must be submitted through the dedicated website of Institut Galilée. Applications will be assessed as they are received and decisions taken on a rolling basis. In any case, decisions will be communicated to applicants at latest in early July. A second wave of applications might be opened from July 1st till August 30th, subject to the number of places available.

Grants

Excellence scholarship are available for the best students. Students may apply to several excellence scholarship programs. These programs are listed on this webpage.

Courses

Organisation and special features

The academic year consists in:

  • 24 weeks of lectures, tutorial rooms and/or practical work on computers, from early September till late March.
  • a 4 long application internship starting i early April.
  • We offer 11 modules of applied mathematics, grouped into 4 thematic blocks: Mathematical tools for data security and integrity, Mathematical tools for data processing and analysis, Data science and machine learning (borrowed to the EID2 Master of the Computer Science Department), and Problems and techniques concerning some specific sorts of data.

In addition, students are being offered two modules helping them to get familiar with their future work environment: a module of English, or French as foreign language, and a module about data bases.

    Internship

The second part of the academic year (from early April to late July or later) is devoted to an application intership in a company or a research organization. This internship is one of the most important part of the Master 2 program. It gets student to face concrete issues concerning data security, integrity, processing and analysis. As part of the internships students must produce a report, to be defended in front of a jury. Students successfully completing their internship are awarded 24 ECTS-credits.

    Graduation

To graduate, students should cumulate 60 ECTS-credits. These credits should in principle come from courses in the above list. Upon request, students may nevertheless customize their academic year by taking other courses (in particular during the second semester) proposed in Université Sorbonne Paris Nord. Successly completing the internship is mandatory for graduation.

    Prospects

After graduating, students may be hired as experts, project managers, intern or extern consultants,... working on issues concerning data security and/or integrity, data processing, data analysis, automatic knowledge extraction,... in global companies, consulting firms, public organizations,... operating in various fields: computer science, bank, insurance, digital marketing, biomedical and pharmaceutical fields, industry, defence,...
