Syllabus

The first half of the course is a core curriculum; we then offer two options.

Common core: Reduction of endomorphisms. Jordan and Frobenius reduction of endomorphisms. Links with the classification of finite abelian groups.

Fundamental option: Complex representations of finite groups. Complex representations of finite groups, semi-simplicity, characters, examples of groups with small cardinallity.

Applied option: Effective reduction methods and correcting codes. Effective reduction methods. Error correcting codes, linear correcting codes, Hamming and Reed-Salomon codes.

Prerequisites

Linear license algebra (including diagonalization and trigonalisation), basic programming skills for the applied option.
